I just installed Firefox 3 here at work. I realize what a silly, insignificant thing this really is, but I really, really, really hate the “recent pages” dropdown being on the back/next buttons and not on the location bar like it has been since basically the beginning of time. The knowledge base has at least helped me make the location bar stop offering suggestions from bookmarks every time I look at it sideways, but I cannot figure out how to put the “recent pages” whackus where it jolly darn well belongs.

I got the Free Time expansion today and spent all afternoon and evening giving everyone secondary aspirations and trying to figure out their hidden hobby interests.

But as long as their ridiculously overhuge crosses aren’t interfering with the businesses and lives of people around them, sure. It’s still a free country, and they’re still free to spend their money on a gigantic cross and plop it down on their own land, and I will gladly defend their right to do so.

Chapter 8: DONE

Final damage: 24,204 words. I’m not 100% certain but I think this may be the longest single thing I have ever written. It is definitely the longest I can think of.

It still needs hell of edited, but all the bits that should be there are there and there are no more “scene missing” keyboardmashes and it’s DONE oh god yay *tired kermitflail*.

SS*BB story notes and wankery follow. Advisory: 100 Candles spoiler that’s going to come out in the next chapter or two anyway.

1. I came this close to having Kevin end up being some archangel or another, just to fuck with that one Anonymous Coward that threatened to rat us all out to Focus on the Family or whateverthehell if s/h/it saw any OMGRELIGIOUS stuff.

2. Y helo thar, 100 Candles AU! Drew is a big badass Western demon that switched teams and is now playing for the Hundred. This is why he doesn’t actually have a name anymore, just a number. I’m still hammering out the finer details of the mythology there, but the tl;dr version goes something like: the Western legion is a mess, its Supreme Leader got pwnt a few thousand years ago and all that’s left are a handful of badasses and about a bajillion slick-sleeve privates fresh from demon boot camp who would be really dangerous if they had a brain among them, and most of the badasses grabbed their personal squads of shadow people underlings and said “fuckall y’all, we’re outta here, good luck.” At least three joined up with the Hundred.

Anyway, canon Drew might still have a little soft spot for the occasional human, but he’s a bit more of a bastard, not completely above double-crossing his boss if necessary, and it’d take a lot more than a pretty face and good sex to convince him to let someone go.

2a. Although I will probably never ever come out and say so: Drew is Mephistopheles. Or, well, he was.

3. And Drew’s “one that got away” is totally not Trent Reznor. I swear. ⌐_⌐;;;

Finally got a response from the paying magazine I sent a story to way back in March.

…okay, no, it wasn’t as bad as that. And they actually took the time and trouble to give some good constructive critique on the thing, and encouraged me to polish it up a little more and try again. Which I will do!

And hey, you know what? This guy does have the right to open up a contraception-free pharmacy chain. Sure. And I have the right to tell them where to stick it, by not spending my money there. Works for me.

But these places damn well better advertise this in great big letters on the front of the building, great big old signs that say “NO BIRTH CONTROL HERE.”

Because there is an even more disturbing trend of assholes behind the pharmacy counter using their religion as an excuse to REFUSE TO GIVE PEOPLE THEIR PRESCRIPTION SLIPS BACK SO THEY CAN GET THEIR STUFF ELSEWHERE. Yes, that does happen. And I would bet several vital organs that it WILL happen in these pharmacies, a lot.

You know what, if you want to weasel out of doing the job you’re paid to do by claiming that parts of it are against your religion (in which case I would argue that maybe you shouldn’t have taken that job in the first place) that’s one thing. But you do not get to steal something that belongs to someone else because of it. No. Wrong answer.

You are not a doctor. It is not your job to decide what medication your customer can or cannot have. You get handed a slip, you give the customer what’s on it, or you apologize and give his or her slip back so he or she can go somewhere where the pharmacists are willing to do their jobs. END OF STORY.

Oh, but don’t worry, men– you’ll still be able to get your Viagra there!
